Raven became obsessed with farming while studying anthropology at the University of Washington. Topics arose in her classes surrounding food security, sustainable farming practices and policies, and the environmental harm caused by modern day industrial agriculture from monoculture farming to modifying foods to sustain heavy pesticide use.
